What is UGC NET 2026?
UGC NET stands for University Grant Commission National Eligibility Test, a qualifying test to evaluate an Indian candidate’s eligibility for admission to Indian universities and colleges for Ph.D., award of Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as Assistant Professor, and appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. Every year, NTA conducts this examination in June & December; for this year June cycle notification has been released. UGC NET examination will be conducted for a total of 83 subjects; the syllabus for each subject will be different from others and will be held in online mode.

UGC NET June 2026 Exam Date Out
Along with the detailed notification PDF, the exam date for UGC National Eligibility Test (June Session) has been announced from 22nd to 30th June 2026. The exam will be conducted in a computer-based mode for a total of 87 subjects. Further details regarding the exam will be released along with its admit card.
UGC NET Online Form 2026
NTA has started accepting the application process for the UGC-NET June 2026 exam at the official website www.ugcnet.nta.nic.in, and the last date to submit the applications is 20th May 2026 by providing personal and educational details, uploading a scanned photo and signature, and then paying the application fee online. Candidates can access the direct link to fill out the application form on the website.
UGC NET Application Fee 2026
The application fee for the UGC NET exam 2026 varies for all categories. The application fee is non-refundable. It can be paid through a credit/ debit card or e-Challan. All the aspirants paying through e-Challan will have to make the cash payment in the bank. The category-wise fee details are mentioned below:

UGC NET June 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Before applying for the UGC NET Examination, candidates must be aware of the basic eligibility criteria, which are based on the age and educational qualification of a candidate.
Age Limit
- The candidates who are applying for the NTA NET Junior Research Fellowships should not be more than 30 years old.
- There is no age limit specified by NTA for candidates applying for Assistant Professorships and admission to PhD.
- Candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC-NCL, and PwD get 5 years of age relaxation in the upper age limit for JRF.
Educational Qualification
- Candidates must be graduates of UGC-recognised universities or institutions with a master’s degree or its equivalent with a 55% mark.
- Those who have finished a 4-year/8-semester bachelor‘s degree program must have an aggregate score of at least 75% or its equivalent.
- Ph.D degree holders get a 5% relaxation in aggregate marks. Eligible candidates must complete their Master‘s degree examination by September 19th, 1991.
- Applicants who are currently in their final semester of a post-graduate degree are also capable of applying.
- Candidates must have scored 55% marks and 50% marks for reserved category students.

UGC NET Minimum Qualifying Marks
Qualifying marks are the minimum eligibility marks only. Scoring qualifying marks does not guarantee selection. Candidates must still clear the subject-wise cut-off marks. The category-wise UGC NET Minimum Qualifying Marks are as follows:

UGC NET Certificate Validity 2026
The UGC NET certificate validity is based on the type of qualification awarded.
- For Assistant Professor – NET Certificate is valid for a lifetime, allowing candidates to apply for teaching roles at any stage.
- For JRF – The JRF award letter is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. Within this duration, candidates must enrol in a PhD program to avail themselves of fellowship benefits.
How to Fill UGC NET Application Form 2026
Follow the below steps to submit UGC NET Application Form 2023 for the UGC-NET December 2022 Cycle.
1. Visit the official website for UGC NET Online Registration or Click on Apply online link mentioned above.
2. Scroll down and click on “Application Form UGC-NET December 2022 cycle”, UGC NET Application Form will be appearing on the screen. Enter the required details in the form and click on Submit.
3. Next step is to fill all the personal and educational details in the UGC NET application form.
4. While filling out the UGC NET Online application form, candidates should remember that the entries should be appropriate otherwise the form will not be accepted.
5. If the details are filled accurately then candidates can proceed to upload scanned photographs.
6. A message containing the Application Number will be shown on the screen. Candidates are required to note it down.
7. The fee payment under UGC NET Apply Online has to be done online through Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking or e-challan.
8. Once the payment is done, take the printout of UGC NET Online Application Form (one copy), Attendance Slip (one copy) and Admit Card(one copy) on separate A-4 size papers.
9. Candidates are supposed to submit the application form through UGC NET Apply Online only. They need not send the hard copies of their online application forms to the exam convener institute.
